". . . thought we were supposed to be friends?" Snape was saying, "Best friends?"
Okay, so it doesn't say he grabs her arms and does this... but that's how I pictured it, I always saw Snape as having that intensity about him, in private, when it came to someone he cared about.
Argh, I did another fanart! But ooh, unintended symbolism! Dark clouds with only a small break in them to cast light on the pair.
Snape's song, after reading that chapter, Enigma by Trapt.

Lovely picture, but AHHHH torn feelings over the pairing.
I love Lily and James, hey without them, no Harry. And I just love the Marauder's in general. (Sirius teehee)
But then Snape and Lily were so beautifully tragic, and I feel for the man.
James was *wrong* in the way he treated Snape, dead wrong. But then, by that time, Snape was already a mini deatheater. We only saw one side here, but I'm sure Snape has given every bit as good as he got. Do I think either, James or Snape were bad men? Nope, absolutely not. Do I think they were both assholes to each other? Yup.
But honestly, how misguided is it to try and impress someone by joining a hate group aimed at people of their birth? Uum, I'm thinking the mudblood comment was just the last straw.
Anyway, I digress. lol
